Gnod / Shit & Shine - Collisions
Yep, we love doing collaborations and splits. Ever since Matty introduced us to the idea of doing a split 7” with his geordie bretheren Bong, it’s something we have become fond of doing, enabling us to work with White Hills and A Middle Sex on releases that have helped shape the Gnod catalogue ever further into the multi-rooted wildbush that it is.
I reckon if we had to choose one band that has had the biggest sonic influence on Gnod, that band would be Shit & Shine. The sheer power they expel live and on record had a definite effect on our psyche. The first time we heard of them was when Rhys (who was playing drums for Notorious HiFi Killers) gave us all copies of ‘Cunts With Roses’ just before our first gig. I remember listening to it and thinking it was a joke! How could anyone possibly listen to this for 30 minutes? It took us a while to realise that this sort of music was built for us, heavy, repetitive, relentless! We saw them play live at Supersonic later that year, complete with around 10 drummers, and a few us of bought copies of ‘Ladybird’ which we played out many times at basement parties.
So, here we are in 2012 and about to do a split with them… The fucking disgusting $&$… It will be released later this year through our label Rocket Recordings as Collisions 03,…
We are extremely proud to announce that 2012 will see another Rocket Collisions release, this time between the mighty Gnod and the amazing Shit and Shine.
This will be the third Collisions release in the series following The Heads / White Hills and Mugstar / Oneida. And like these the previous two, this record will consist of two side long tracks, one by each band.
We at Rocket are excited to be finally putting out a Shit and Shine record after being fans of the band since their inception and their Riot Season and Noisestar releases are regulars on the Mission Control record deck. $&$ decamped to Austin Texas last year hence why this split with Gnod can be possible (keeping our anglo american theme) and since this move the band has been working with several new musicians including King Coffey from Butthole Surfers…very excited to see what they deliver.
Gnod are currently working on the initial parts of their track and the rumbles from the studio are apparently akin to Swans meets Shackleton!!!!! This is gonna be one mighty release! Watch this space for more info on this release plus also a fourth Collisions which is with the scientists as we speak!!
